                  Blanchard's Cricket Frog

Blanchard's Cricket Frog (Acris blanchardi) is a common species of small hylid from over most of the central United States.  It ranges from northern Mexico north into southern South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and over into Ohio.  It ranges south  from there into the mountains of Kentucky and Tennesee and down through western Arkansas.

It was formerly considered to be the same species as the Eastern Cricket Frog (Acris crepitans)  which ranges from the mid-Atlantic lowlands down through the southeast to extreme eastern Texas.  The populations along the gulf coast of eastern Texas and western Louisiana have also been recognized as a separate subspecies at one time (Acris crepitans paludicola).

An approximate range map for the Eastern and Blanchard's Cricket frogs can be seen here.
